Georgia is an independent state located in south-eastern Europe, on the eastern shore of the Black Sea. The country has a total area of 69,700 square kilometres and borders Russia in the north, Azerbaijan in the south-east, Turkey and Armenia in the south.
Georgia's economy is on the rise. Over the past ten years, the country has experienced an average annual growth of 5%. Its GDP has increased from USD 17.6 billion in 2014 to USD 30.6 billion in 2024. Foreign direct investment (FDI), for its part, continues to reach record levels.
Most of the hotels and restaurants are concentrated in two cities - Tbilisi and Batumi.
There are 2,955 hotels and 809 other short-term accommodation facilities in Georgia. Moreover, 782 hotels also have their own restaurant. Most of all hotels are concentrated in Tbilisi. These are the data of the National Statistics Service of Georgia (NSSG), as of 01 December 2024.
The total area of hotels and hotel-type establishments operating in Georgia during this period was 3,729.5 thousand square metres, which is 16.7% more than in 2024. The living area of all rooms was 1,557.3 thousand square metres, which is 4.5% more than in the previous year.
In 2024, hotels in Georgia served 5 million guests, which is 1.2% more than in 2023. At the same time, 60.2% of guests were foreigners, most of whom (355 thousand) were Russian citizens
The restaurant sector is experiencing a strong influx of new players. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of new catering facilities have settled in Tbilisi and Batumi. By the end of 2024, 1,100 new restaurants, cafes and bars have opened in the country. The trend of growth in the number of catering facilities continues in 2025.
